IHS can be different things, ‘in hoc signo’ (‘in this sign’), ‘Iessus Hominum Salvator’, Jesus Saviour of Man, to name two examples.
Jackson sees the crucifixion of Christ in this image and Cooper calls this a “Passion Cross”.
If it is IHS, it would be another likely Templar reference.
